Description
The Web of Things activity kicked off in December 2016 following the workshop in 2014. We owe a huge debt to those few people who have actively contributed to the specifications and plugfests over many years. As we recharter, we should mount a marketing campaign to attract additional people and help us realise the potential for the Web of Things in the new era of AI opening up before us.
The marketing campaign would target organizations that may not already be W3C Members, with a view of persuading them of the value of the Web of Things, and the importance of supporting standardization and adopting it as part of their IoT strategy given the continuing fragmentation of the IoT space. Whilst the WoT WG charter must perforce have a narrow scope, our work needs to be seen in a broader context. Our materials for this should touch on the role of AI, the relationship to swarm computing, the edge-cloud continuum, data spaces and activities devoted to re-use of ontologies.
How can we avail ourselves of external resources to execute an effective marketing campaign for the Web of Things and support for the new charter?
